STILL UNDECIDED ON ONDINE.? READ ON...

I came upon this article today; a wonderfully intelligent review of Ondine written by Steve Lafleur for the The Calgary Beacon online daily newspaper.

EXTRACTS:
Alternately elegiac and hopeful, Ondine is a prose poem; a pastiche of Irish culture. There is nothing more difficult than creating a film that leaves the audience feeling hopeful, without a trace of cynicism. Ondine is one of the rare movies that does just that.

More so than any movie that comes to mind, Ondine examines the nature of mythology.

Colin Farrell is among the most talented actors in Hollywood today. It is great to see that he is still willing to take on smaller roles. Actors like Farrell lend credibility to smaller productions, and have been instrumental in the current film renaissance we are experiencing. Farrell is equally at home playing the action hero, as he is a downtrodden fisherman. He’s occasionally morose, sometimes clownish, but his ascetic demeanor is resilient.

I always intended to watch to Ondine... just not in any great hurry, however after reading Steve's review he has certainly provoked my intrigue once again and having just popped onto the HMV website I notice that it's currently on offer for £6.99... me thinks I feel the credit card coming out!

  1. Curious to know what you think, Gem. I thought Colin was brilliant, especially in the scenes with Stephen Rea but for me the movies kind of fell apart middle to end. It's still fun to watch. Would've preferred Marion C in the title role. She is lovely and mysterious. I think she's going to be his wife in Cosmopolis. That'll be good. ;;)

  4. Yes. Cosmopolis is a novel being made into a movie. The story is fascinating and there are some hot scenes if they stick to the book. :X Drooling at just the thought. I liked Triage more than Ondine. But it's a very hard movie to watch. Looking forward to your comments on Ondine. So so glad to have you back.

PS There's also talk about him being in a remake of Total Recall, which will be interesting. I hope all of his new projects don't mean he'll be unable to do At Swim. That's one I've been looking forward to for ages.

  5. So have I got this right: Cosmopolis is the 2003 novel written by Don Delillo about a rather arrogant multi-millionaire enroute to get a hair-cut. And it's whilst he's travelling across Manhattan in his limo that the story unfolds about all the people and stuff going on in his life, which in turn leads to his own personal journey of life changing decisions?

If I have got the right novel then it's certainly an interesting choice of film. One that could work wonderfully well if directed properly, or one that could turn into a complete Hollywood car crash... if ya know what I mean :-/ ;)
